K1 and K3 mens teams miss out on a finals spot

Unfortunately both the K1M and K3M were unable to top what has already been a terrific season, suffering losses in their semi-final games.

Having both been promoted to higher grades at the beginning of the season, the teams can be proud of finishing in the top four.

The K1M have beaten both of the P2 finalists this year, and shows just how tight their grade has been.

The K3M finished their season strongly, with three wins from their last three round robin games, but they met a tough opponent in their semi-final - facing an Upper Hutt team that hadn't lost a game all season.

Well done lads, it's onwards and upwards next season.

K1M guaranteed a P2 semi-final

The K1M team have capped off a stellar season by guaranteeing themselves a semi-final game in the top half of the P2 grade.

Having only been promoted to the grade at the beginning of the season, this is a fantastic result.

Especially considering there is still one round robin game to go!

They can finish as high as second in the regular season, if results go their way this weekend.

Well done lads - let's hope you see it all the way through and lift that trophy in a few weeks time!

K1W finish third in P1

The K1W finished their season in third place in the P1 grade after a comfortable 2-0 win over Victoria in the 3rd/4th place playoff game.

It was a fair end to another strong season in P1 from the K1W, who finished the round robin games in third place on the table, four points ahead of Victoria.

The K1W had to withstand some late pressure in the final, but held off a strong Victoria side to finish the season on a high.

This was their third top three finish in the last four seasons in the P1 grade. Excellent work ladies - number one next year!

K1W into the P1 semi-finals

The K1W have made it into the Premier 1 semi-final play-offs yet again.

They will face a strong Harbour City team who finished second after the regular season.

The game will be played on Saturday 26 July, at 2.45pm - so get on down to NHS and give them your full support.

Go hard ladies.

Three Karori players named in women's 2014 NHL teams

Huge congratulations go to Brooke Young, Sarah Hadfield and Hannah Naftel (all from the K1W team) who have been selected to represent NHL teams for the 2014 competition.

Brooke and Sarah will join Black Sticks players Anita Punt and Aniwaka Roberts in the Capital team for this year's competition, and will be hoping to eclipse their loss in last year's final and take out the title.

Meanwhile, Hannah will be representing the Central Mysticks in their quest for some silverware.

We wish you all the best of luck for this year's tournament.

K1M gain promotion to the P2 grade

After safely negotiating their way through the P3 grading games with some impressive victories (8-1, 7-1, 7-2), the K1M faced a far tougher opponent in the P2 promotion final.

Coming up against a strong Indians team that consisted mostly of ex-P1 players, the K1M put in an outstanding performance to thrash them 8-1.

And the one goal that was conceded came from a penalty corner strike that managed to bobble its way into the corner, in the very last play of the game.

Four goals in each half sees the K1M back in the P2 grade, where they will be pushing for a top 4 finish. Special mention goes to James Preston for netting a hat-trick, and picking up the man of the match award.

We're very much looking forward to seeing how the K1M will fare this season. Good luck lads!

Three Karori players named in the women's Capital NHL squad

We are proud to announce that Brooke Young, Hannah Naftel and Sarah Hadfield (all from the K1W team) have been selected in the 2014 women's Capital NHL squad.

Great work ladies!

Trainings for NHL will commence on 9 June, with the first game of the NHL competition taking place on 30 August in Christchurch.

We wish you both the best of luck for this year's competition.

Congratulations to our Capital U18 representatives

Huge congratulations go to Sam Chandler and Niklas Weiher of the K1 men's team, who have both been selected to represent the men's Capital U18 team.

After a number of trials where they were put to the test, the guys came out on top and now form part of the 18 player squad.

We wish them both all the best of luck for the national tournament in July. You've done yourselves, and the club, proud.

Two Grand Final winning teams!

The K2 womens team
The K2 mens team

A massive congratulations goes to the K2 women's team and the K2 men's team, who both won their Grand Finals game - gaining automatic promotion for next season!

The K2 women beat Petone 2-0 after a dominant performance backed up two early goals, booking their spot in next years P2 grade.

A superb effort ladies, especially after coming so close last year, and in grading this year.

It seemed not even their coach, dressed in a zebra onesie, could put them off their game on Saturday. But now we're all wondering what Karl's forfeit will be if they make next year's final...something to aim for!

Sunday's game saw the K2 men take on Harbour City in the R2 Final.

After a closely fought first half, the teams went to the break locked up at 1-1. Cue the inspirational team talk.

Sure enough, a second half Karori blitz saw the K2 men triumph 7-2 at full time, with the game's MVP Nick Tweed scoring 4 goals.

Watch out R1, the men in black are coming for you...

Karori Premier 1 Women finish runners-up in P1

The K1 womens team

Unfortunately the K1 women weren't able to finish their season where they deserved to be, instead succumbing to Eastern Hutt in the P1 final.

Coming back from 2-0 down after 15 minutes, Karori managed to get to 3-3, before a breakaway Eastern Hutt goal in the last 10 minutes decided the end result.

A disappointing finish to a superb season, but the K1 women can hold their heads high with one of the most successful seasons in the clubs history.

Six Karori players named in the Capital NHL Women's squad

A K1 womens team player

A terrific start to the season from the K1W has seen six of their players chosen for the Capital NHL squad for 2013. Well done to Brooke Young, Hannah Naftel, Maddie Simmonds, Nicole van Oosterom, Sarah Hadfield and Stephanie Roughan - you have done the club proud.

NHL begins on 10 August and finishes at North Harbour after being played at various locations. Best of luck to you ladies!

Two Karori teams in the Grand Finals

Premier 3 Women's Final: Karori 2 vs Petone 1 - 1.30pm, NHS1

Get along and support our K2 womens team on Saturday in their Grand Final!

Reserve 2 Men's Final: Karori 2 vs Harbour City 5 - 11.30am, NHS1

And as if the above wasn't enough, we've got our K2 mens team playing on Sunday in their Grand Final, double whammy!

Let's make sure we assemble the black and white army and fill those stands at NHS with the loudest supporters in Wellington!

Karori Premier 1 Women - Grand Final Bound!

After a resounding 5-1 semi-final win, the Karori Premier 1 Women are headed for the Grand final. In a repeat of the 2011 final, 'Minor Premiers' Karori will be taking on Eastern Hutt, who overcame Harbour City 3-1 in the other semi-final.

So we need to assemble a black and white army to come along and support our team.

Grab anyone you know and bring them to the game, Saturday 27 July at 1.45pm, on NHS1.

Go the K1 women!

Premier 1 women's semi-final

A huge congratulations goes to the Karori women's 1st XI team, who have not only made it through to the semi-finals of the P1 competition, but also finished top of the regular season table. Minor Premiers, you might say.

But their job is only half-done, as now comes the tough part - finals time.

So we need to assemble a black and white army to come along and support our team.

Grab anyone you know and bring them to the game, Monday 22 July at 7pm, on NHS1.

Go the K1 women!

K1W finish the regular season on a high, and on top

The K1 women have completed their regular season with another win, earning themselves the title of Minor Premiers for the P1 grade. Well done ladies!

The team narrowly missed out on the club record for the most successful season by the women's top team, but nevertheless finished on top of the table with an impressive record of 13 wins, 1 draw and just the 1 loss.

They now face Victoria in the semi-finals, who they've beaten on every occasion this season already. But that doesn't mean they'll be taking it easy!

K1W remain the only unbeaten team in the P1 women's grade

Following on from where they left off on the weekend, the K1W resumed their winning ways with a bonus point 5-0 victory over Indians.

This win sees them shoot to the top of the table, and with a game in hand! Things are looking very promising indeed for the 2013 season.

K3W gain promotion to P3

A huge congratulations to the K3 women's team, who won their promotion game last weekend and now find themselves in the P3 grade.

We wish you all the best for the season!

And now the season proper gets under way...

The grading rounds for P2-R3 have now been completed, which means that this weekend sees the normal season get underway. We have 3 men's teams entered in the Willington competition this year, and 4 women's teams.

Fantastic weekend for the club - 7 wins from 7 games!

Karori Hockey Club made their intentions clear this weekend, with all teams winning their games, despite torrential downpours and far from ideal playing conditions!

The K1W got things underway on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Victoria. The K1M then picked up where they left off with a 2-0 win over Petone. The K2W followed this up with a good 1-0 win over Hutt, and the K4W topped Saturday off with a great 2-1 win over Petone.

An early start for all of the remaining Karori teams on Sunday (9.40am and two 9.45am starts!) saw the K3W earn a hard fought win over Harbour City, 4-3 at Elsdon. Not to be outdone, the K3M came away with a 5-2 win over Petone at Fraser - an especially great result considering they only had 10 players! And the final team showing no signs of being affected by the early morning time slot, the K2M overcame YWCA to claim a 3-0 win and complete the clean-sweep of results for the club.

Here's hoping it's one of many such weekends!

All teams (barring the K1W) can now look forward to the promotion play-offs, which begin this weekend. Best of luck to you all!

Karori P2-R3 teams get their 2013 seasons underway

The rest of the Karori teams kicked off their new seasons with very positive results.

On what turned out to be a Super Saturday, the K2W kicked us off with a 4-1 win over YWCA in the morning, followed by the K1M's 2-0 win over last season's P2 relegated team Kapiti.

The day was then finished off by the K4W, who earned themselves a draw against Harbour City.

Sunday began along the same lines as Saturday, with the K3W coming out on top against Victoria, 1-0.

But unfortunately the good run ended there, with both the K2M and K3M suffering narrow losses.

The K2M started well in their game, holding YWCA to 3-3 at half-time, but were unable to capitalise and went down 5-3 in the end.

The day's late game at Maidstone saw the K3M pipped 3-2 by Upper Hutt, but things are looking promising despite the loss.

K1 women get the season off to a great start

The women's 1st XI team got their P1 season underway with an unbeaten double-header on 23/24 March.

They drew their first game of the season 1-1 with Indians, and followed it up with a 1-0 win against Harbour City on Sunday.

Congratulations to Hannah Naftel and Annie McNaughtan who scored the goals (and in that order!).

And to finish on a high, here's an extract from the WHA write-up for the weekend:

“Harbour City went down 1-0 to the dangerous looking Karori on Sunday.”

Well done ladies, you've set a high benchmark for the rest of the KHC teams!

Karori Hockey Club trials 2013

The trials for the 2013 season have now been completed!

Thanks to everyone who took part this year - we had a great turnout for each team and it was good to see some new faces, and also those old hands returning for another season of KHC hockey!

If you missed out on the trials, but are still keen to get involved with the club, please contact us.

K2 Women's team finish second in the P3 grade

A huge congratulations is in order for the K2 Women's team, who finished runners-up in the P3 grade following a narrow 2-1 loss to Kapiti in the final.

It was a close game on a surprisingly sunny Saturday afternoon at NHS. The support crew were out en masse, cheering the team all the way to the final whistle.

Karori went ahead before the break, from a coolly-slotted shot into the top right of the goal. Unfortunately in the second half Kapiti started to gather momentum and scored two goals on the break, the second taking an unfortunate deflection past the keeper.

But undeterred, Karori pushed hard to the end, threatening the Kapiti goal with a number of penalty corners, shots and deflections. Unfortunately none of them stuck and the ladies finished on a slightly disappointing note, but with their heads held high.

It was a very valiant effort, especially considering that the K2W team only came into the P3 grade at the beginning of the season, after winning the R1 grade last season. Kapiti won all 14 of their round robin games this year, and their captain acknowledged that Karori were the toughest team they had faced in the grade.

A big shout out goes to Liz Latham (captain of K2W) who was awarded the MVP (most valuable player) award from the Wellington Hockey Association following the game.

Overall it was a fantastic effort from the whole K2W team - as a club we're very proud of what you and your coach, Karl Nesbitt, have achieved this year.

Congratulations to...

Sarah Hadfield and Brooke Young of the K1 Women's team for representing the women's Capital and Central NHL teams respectively.

It was a great effort from both of them, who played the first NHL games here in Wellington, on 18 August. The Capital Women finished in a very creditable 5th place after the round robin games, and then played Northland (who had finished 8th) in the first play-off game, and were incredibly convincing in their 7 - 2 win. They then went on to play Central for the 5th place spot but didn't have their best game of the week unfortunately, going down narrowly 3 - 2, with Central scoring the deciding goal late in the second half.
